Launching Candle Making Kits

Introducing the Spiced Girls Candle Making Kits

Why Candle Making Kits

Makers squad get ready! If you’re a maker at heart, making your own of anything is a joy. Whether that’s sourdough bread or Candles, there’s no better feeling than getting yourself ready to create something new with your own hands. This is something i’m hugely passionate about.

During the pandemic, I was a huge fan of #makerssquad and #makersedit. Making everything from food, to baking, to candles, I was ready. I got a lot of joy from creating things that I was able to share with my friends and family. This is something I’d now like to share with you all.

Candle making kits are your go to solution if you want to make your own candles but don’t want to commit to buying everything needed to do so in bulk. You can get 1 or 2 of everything you need to make your own natural wellness candles, giving you both a fun craft led experience but also a fantastic product at the end of it. Something you can use yourself or a homemade gift you can share with friends and family. What’s not to love.

3 Top lessons learned from launching Soy Candle Making Kits for Autumn / Winter / Christmas

Wow, it had been an absolute ADVENTURE designing and launching the Christmas Candle Making Kits. Starting in July, it’s taken a total of 3 months to get everything to a place where I feel comfortable sharing with the world. This has been a really important product for me as it’s essentially how I started my business - through the joy of creating. It’s been really important to make sure that the kits provide that same level of joy to those who receive it too.

 Start Early

Understandably, the process always takes longer than expected when creating something new. For the Christmas Candle Making Kits, the process started in July, but with hindsight I should’ve started much earlier. There’s so much involved from choosing the right wax, testing the scents, wicks and measurements to making sure everyone can follow the instruction booklets. It’s a lot of work but also a lot of fun

Not everything will go to plan

I learned this lesson very early on. From wax shortages, to printing and reprinting instruction guides to be clearer, there were a lot of mistakes I was able to make and learn from. The amazing thing about creating something new is that it IS new. That’s what’s fun. Getting to fail at it in a safe environment in order to make something better the next time. One of my most favourite parts of this journey is the constant iteration on these scented candle making kits. Whether it’s iterating the scents, or iterating on the packaging, this has been a fabulous learning experience.

 Ask for help

I learned this lesson very early on. From wax shortages, to printing, to testing and design work, it’s difficult to do everything yourself. I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who helped me along the way. It means a whole damn lot!

2 Challenges faced when launching a Candle Making Kit in the UK

Wax Supply

One of the biggest challenges candle makers have faced this past year is the supply of wax. This wasn’t any different for me. Whilst there’s lots more makers in the self-care industry now more than ever, some suppliers have struggled with keeping up. This is one of the reasons why i created the kits. Having to monitor supply sites on a daily basis to get your materials is no fun. That’s why we do it for you. Anyone who is a candle making beginner or just wants to do it as a hobby can! That’s the beauty of having everything put together for you in a kit

 Choosing Scents

I’m a huge fan of trying lots of different scented candles. I can’t be tied down to just one. Similar to most people, different fragrances elicit different vibes for me and tailoring scent experiences is a fundamental. When creating these DIY Candle Kits, I loved playing with scent profiles and notes to come up with what we have. I find that having a theme really helps. I always knew that Pumpkin Spice would be a huge feature of the autumn/winter candle making kit, but being able to build a story around her and her other Spiced Girls really helped when choosing which scents to go for.
